AMRITSAR: Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency and former Ambassador of India to America Taranjit Singh Sandhu said that the current Lok Sabha elections are the battle of the future, which will decide the future of Amritsar and its people.
He said that Amritsar and border areas are very backward compared to other cities. A special package is needed from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bring it back on track. He said that there is a need to select such a person who has the ability to do this work. Taranjit Singh Sandhu was addressing an impressive gathering of panches, sarpanches and dignitaries at a local hotel today.
He said that a part of the investment being made by American companies in India will also be brought to Amritsar. He said that India-US relations are now rapidly progressing as a partnership, now it is the turn of US and Amritsar to build relations.
Expressing sympathy for the poor state of law and order and the people suffering from drugs, he said that in the states where there are BJP governments, there is no law and order problem and there is no place for drugs. He said that apart from freeing the youth from drugs, employment opportunities will be created here to prevent them from going abroad.
I am aware of the feelings of the youth, they want to do more in life and move forward. There is a need to provide efficient education to empower the youth here. Companies don't get good skilled people. Foreign companies are willing to offer internships. Former Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu said that we will work together. Our dreams will surely come true. He said that Amritsar had everything before, even now we have many opportunities, we have to restore the pride of the city. Where has Indore reached? Time has come to change the face of Amritsar, by 2027 the city will compete with Indore. He said that girls from Haryana and other states are making progress in sports, so why are we lagging behind? Sports will be revived in Amritsar. A year later, the IPL matches will be held in Amritsar. He said that the private sector will have to be brought to Amritsar. He said that tourism industry has more potential in Amritsar. Young people can start startups. There is a need to increase air connectivity to Amritsar. Air Canada is ready to land at Amritsar. Soon the American Consulate will be opened here. Visa will be available from here. There is no shortage of opportunities for international business.
Emphasizing on increasing the income of farmers, he said that fruits, vegetables, Amritsar jewellery, shoes, phulkari etc. can be sent to foreign countries through cargo from Amritsar. Amritsar's economic development can be boosted by providing opportunities for local businesses to partner with leading global industrial brands.
