CHANDIGARH: Election Commission of India (ECI) today held a review meeting of Electoral Roll with the nodal officers of the state and UTs. Chaired by Sh. Umesh Sinha, Secretary General, ECI, it was aimed at enhancing the overall health of the Electoral Roll and familiarisation with new additions in the electoral process, particularly focusing on ensuing state elections including Punjab.

In the meeting commonly faced issues like Demographic Similar Entries (DSEs), repeat EPICs and logical errors were discussed and Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of the states were instructed to take appropriate steps at their level for the removal of these errors to ensure error-free electoral rolls.

With a mission to streamline the electoral process and make it convenient for the electors, the commission has taken various important decisions which include issuance of duplicate EPIC free of cost and tie-up with Indian Postal Department for delivery of EPIC through speed post.

Duplicate EPICs were earlier issued by paying a fee of Rs. 25. For the convenience of electors, the commission has now decided to issue duplicate EPIC free of cost. Electors can also apply through online/offline mode. Electors can apply for duplicate EPIC by filling Form no -001 online through www.nvsp portal Voter Helpline mobile App.

EPICs were earlier delivered by Booth Level Officers (BLOs). To streamline the entire process, the commission has now collaborated with the Indian Postal department to deliver EPICs through speed post.

The commission has directed the states where assembly elections are going to held in next one year to focus on continuous updation of Electoral Roll for ensuring 100% enrolment and improving the health of the electoral roll, keeping in view the COVID-19 guidelines.

Dr. S Karuna Raju, IAS, CEO, Punjab and Ms. Madhvi Katarina, IAS, Additional CEO, Punjab attended the meeting.
