KCVAS Hosts National Workshop on “Enhancing Farm Profitability through Scientific Livestock Management
AMRITSAR: The Department of Livestock Products Technology (LPT), Khalsa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (KCVAS), Amritsar, in association with the Indian Meat Science Association (IMSA), Hyderabad, organised a National workshop on "Enhancing Farm Profitability through Scientific Livestock Management" at KCVAS.
The programme commenced with seeking Almighty blessings followed by the floral welcome of the dignitaries and a welcome address by Dr. V. V. Kulkarni, Head, LPT. Dr. H. K. Verma, Principal, KCVAS, presided over the function and appreciated the efforts of the organising department in conducting programmes that promote scientific knowledge and capacity building among veterinary professionals and students.
Dr. Verma emphasized that learning of management tips is important for the budding veterinarians, as they have to share the knowledge with Livestock farmers for making them adopt scientific management practices for better & sustainable productivity overcoming the hurdles of sickness, season and stress through smart Livestock, focussing on ‘Ideal Management’ with equal ‘Preventive Measures’.
Delivering the keynote lecture, Dr. John Abraham, Head, Department of Livestock Production Management, Veterinary College, Pookode, Kerala spoke on "Transforming Livestock Management through Innovation, Sustainability and Smart Management." He highlighted the importance of integrating modern technologies, scientific management practices and sustainable production systems to improve farm efficiency and profitability.
While, Dr. Rajneesh, Scientist from Department of Livestock Production Management, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, detailed the scientific management of companion animals, particularly dogs and cats, and elaborated on the latest management practices for ensuring their health and welfare which is the need of hour & a common query for Pet owners. The programme brought together academicians, research scholars and students to discuss scientific approaches for improving livestock productivity and profitability attended by around 90 veterinarians.
The workshop focused on the role of modern livestock management practices in ensuring sustainable farming, improving animal productivity and strengthening the economic returns of livestock farmers. Experts emphasised that the adoption of science-based management strategies is essential for addressing the changing demands of the livestock sector while ensuring animal welfare and environmental sustainability.
During the valedictory session, Dr. S. K. Nagpal, Managing Director, KCVAS, delivered the felicitation address suggesting more such interactive workshops for updation of knowledge. The workshop concluded with an engaging interactive session, allowing participants to exchange ideas and seek expert guidance on various aspects of scientific livestock management. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Sakshi Sharma, Assistant Professor, LPT.
