AMRITSAR: Giani Raghbir Singh Jathedar of Akal Takht has congratulated all the Sikhs living in Britain saying that 4 turban-wearing Sikhs and 5 women belonging to Sikh families became members of Parliament for the first time in British Parliament elections as a proud achievement for the global Sikh community.
In a written statement issued by the Akal Takht Sahib Secretariat, Giani Raghbir Singh said that during the last century and a half, Sikhs migrated out of Punjab and India to western countries and today Sikhs live in more than 161 countries of the world.
He expressed his satisfaction on the fact that by following the principles of the ten Gurus of 'Kirat Karo, Naam Jopo, Vand Chhoko', Sikhs in every country have shown their hard work, honesty and merit.
He said that of course Sikhs are sitting in a good political position in America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand and Sikhs in Britain have made a good impact in the civil, administrative and political fields, but during the recent parliamentary elections in Britain, four turban-wearing Sikhs and Five belonging to Sikh familiesIt is a matter of great pride for women to become members of parliament.
