PHAGWARA: A disturbing incident has come to light from the village of Rihana Jattan near Phagwara, where a local youth was caught on video physically assaulting a woman. The video quickly went viral on social media, prompting swift action from the police, who have since arrested the accused and registered a case.
According to the victim, Baljit Kaur, the dispute began when village panchayat member Gurpreet Singh Gopi allegedly encroached on her property by digging into the foundation of her house in order to realign the foundation of his own home. When she tried to stop him, the situation escalated into a violent confrontation.
“He attacked me and began beating me up. He even assaulted my family members, some of whom are physically challenged, ” Baljit Kaur said, adding that the entire incident was captured on video, which has since spread widely across social media platforms.
Following public outrage and the circulation of the video, local police acted promptly. Station House Officer (SHO) Major Singh confirmed that the youth has been taken into custody and that a case has been formally registered against him.
“The accused has been apprehended and appropriate legal action is being taken, ” SHO Singh stated.
The incident has raised serious concerns about public safety, especially in rural areas, and the role of social media in bringing such cases to light. Authorities have assured that a fair investigation will be conducted and justice will be served.
