Singer Hassan Manak Sent to Judicial Remand in NRI Fraud and Assault Case

PHAGWARA: In a significant development, a local court on Thursday sent Punjabi singer Hassan Manak alias Hassan Khan to judicial remand of 14 days in connection with a case involving allegations of cheating, fraud, and sexual assault lodged by a UK-based NRI woman. The accused was produced before the Judicial Magistrate, Phagwara, who ordered his remand following preliminary interrogation by police officials.

According to police sources, the remand follows a detailed complaint filed earlier this year by Parvinder Kaur, mother of the victim Jaspreet Kaur, a Non-Resident Indian residing in the United Kingdom. The complaint, addressed to the Superintendent of Police, Phagwara, seeks registration of an FIR under Sections 61(2), 63, 64, 81, 82, 83, 318(2), 318(3), 318(4), and 320 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 against Hassan Manak and several of his family members.

The complainant alleged that the accused befriended her daughter on Instagram during his visit to England, proposed marriage, and concealed his marital status and religious identity. The accused allegedly misrepresented himself as a single Sikh while being married to Mandeep Kaur, with a pending domestic violence case (No. 336/2024) in Bathinda courts.

The complaint further claims that, under false pretenses of marriage, Manak and his family extracted ₹22–25 lakh from the victim’s family in the form of wedding-related expenses, including gold jewelry, cash, and lavish gifts. The wedding ceremonies were arranged at Anmol Palace, Banga, where, according to the complaint, police intervention on November 23, 2024, revealed that the marriage was void.

Despite the police intervention, the accused allegedly persuaded the victim to claim she was in a live-in relationship to avoid legal complications. The victim was then allegedly taken to the accused’s residence in Moga, where she was subjected to repeated sexual assault between November 23 and November 27, 2024, under the false assurance that she was his legally wedded wife.

The victim later alleged that the accused compelled her to leave India immediately, warning that police might arrest her. She departed for London from Amritsar Airport, accompanied by the accused and his brother, during which £1, 800 was reportedly stolen from her purse.

The complaint also asserts that the accused and his associates deliberately withheld all photographs and video footage of the wedding to erase evidence.

The application was formally endorsed by the DSP Phagwara and later forwarded by the Senior Superintendent of Police, Kapurthala, for investigation and legal action.

Police officials confirmed that after his arrest, the accused was produced before the court today and remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation into the role of other named individuals, including Bhola Khan, Gurjeet Kaur, Simran Khan, and Sandeep Khan, is currently underway.
