CHANDIGARH: Punjab and Haryana High Court today granted anticipatory bail to former Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini and asked him to join the investigation within one week.
Punjab Police has booked Saini under disproportionate assets case and last week raided his home to arrest him. The court of additional district and session judge Mohali had rejected his bail application. Saini is also facing probe in the Bargari and Kotkapura firing incidents related to sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib.
The High Court has also ordered Saini to submit his passport to the police so that he may not leave the country.
While senior Supreme Court lawyer Mukul Rohtagi represented Saini, senior SC lawyer and Congress leader P chidambram represented Punjab Government.
