KAITHAL: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Punjab’s Shutrana constituency, Kulwant Singh Bazigar, along with his two sons, has been booked by the Haryana Police in a sensational case of kidnapping and attempt to murder of a youth from Punjab.

According to police sources, the Guhla Police Station in Kaithal district has registered a case against seven persons, including MLA Bazigar, his sons Gurmeet Singh and Harjeet Singh, and four accomplices — Harjinder Singh,  Dheera,  Satpal, and Ajit (Harjeet’s son) — under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.

The complaint was lodged by Gurcharan Singh, a resident of Chichadwala village (Karim Nagar) in Punjab, who alleged that he was abducted at gunpoint near village Kharkan in the Guhla area and later brutally assaulted near Narwana in Haryana.

Gurcharan told police that he had come to Kharkan with a friend on a scooter when four men in a car forcibly abducted him at revolver point. The assailants allegedly took him to Narwana, where they beat his legs with an iron rod near a canal. He said he was rescued when farmers working nearby heard his cries for help and rushed toward the spot, forcing the attackers to flee.

Gurcharan alleged that the entire attack was carried out on the instructions of MLA Kulwant Singh Bazigar, with whom he had a long-standing village rivalry.

He claimed that during last year’s Panchayat elections,  Bazigar allegedly tried to impose his brother as the Sarpanch by exerting political pressure, but Gurcharan challenged the move in the High Court and succeeded in getting the consensus order quashed. Since then, he said, the MLA had a grudge against him.

DSP Kuldeep Beniwal of Guhla confirmed that a case had been registered under sections 126(2), 140(2), 115(2), 61(4), and 351(2) of the BNS, along with Section 25A of the Arms Act. The investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, MLA Kulwant Singh Bazigar released a video statement on social media, denying the allegations and calling the case “politically motivated.” He said, “If any involvement of mine or my sons is found, I will resign from my post.” Bazigar further alleged that the complainant, Gurcharan Singh, had nine previous criminal cases registered against him in different police stations.

Kaithal SP Upasana confirmed the registration of the case and said a thorough probe was in progress to verify the claims made by both sides.

The case has sparked political ripples in Punjab, where the Aam Aadmi Party government is already battling multiple controversies involving its legislators.
