PHAGWARA: Nakodar Police have successfully foiled a planned firing incident and arrested two accused involved in an extortion and firing case linked to threats from foreign-based gang members, following a brief but decisive encounter on Tuesday.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Nakodar Onkar Sing Brar while confirming it told The Tribune here today that the case pertains to Manish Bakshi alias Mannu, a resident of Nakodar City and proprietor of Bakshi Travel Company and B.B. School of IELTS, who has been running his business establishments for the past 16–17 years. According to the complaint, on November 11, 2025, Bakshi received threatening calls from foreign mobile numbers. The callers claimed to be members of the Goldy Brar and Rohit Godhra gang and demanded an extortion amount of ₹5 crore. Acting on the complaint, FIR No. 137 dated November 14, 2025, under Sections 308(5) and 352(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), was registered at Police Station City Nakodar.
The matter escalated further during the intervening night of January 16 and 17, 2026, when the complainant received additional threatening messages from foreign numbers alleging that shots had been fired outside his office premises due to non-payment of the extortion money. Following this incident, FIR No. 13 dated January 18, 2026, under Sections 308(5), 351(2), 125, 61(2), 3(5) BNS and Sections 25/27 of the Arms Act, was registered at the same police station.
Considering the seriousness of the case, special police teams were constituted under the directions of SSP Jalandhar Rural S. Harvinder Singh Virk. The operation was supervised by DSP Onkar Singh Brar himself and DSP Inderjit Singh Saini, with active participation from Inspector CIA Pushap Bali, SI Harminder Singh, SHO Police Station City Nakodar, and SI Dilbagh Singh, SHO. Teams from the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) also coordinated closely during the operation.
