Kapurthala police arrest two drug smugglers, seized Opium and intoxicating pills

PHAGWARA: The police in its campaign against drug smugglers, arrested two smugglers from police station Rawalpindi and Kotwali Kapurthala area and recovered 50 grams of opium and intoxicant tablets from the accused in separate cases.

The arrested accused have been identified as Rajwant singh alias Raju son of Anokh singh resident of Khassan, Bhulath and Sameer Mohamad son of mangal hussain resident of village Palahi Phagwara.

SSP Kapurthala Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh while confirming the police success told this correspondent here today that in the first case a Jail Prisoner Rajwant singh alias Raju was arrested for smuggling drugs into the jail while on his way back after being discharged from the hospital.

Jail security guards got suspicious when they found that he had a bloated stomach and was using a walker as his leg was injured. They called the police party of Kotwali Police station and during his search police recovered 515 drug tablets, 150 gram tobacco and 800 rupee Indian currency.

A case under section 22 NDPS Act has been registered in against the criminals in police station Kotwali Kapurthala.

In second case Police Party of Rawalpindi police station during checking on T-Point bhogpur to GNA University Bhogur road intercepted drugs smuggler Sameer Mohamad.

The accused through a packet and tried to run form the spot after watching the police party but police party immediately captured him and recovered 50 grams of opium form the packet.

A case under section 18 NDPS has been registered against the accused in police station Rawalpindi Phagwara.

The Police will produce the criminals before the Magistrate and police remand will be sought to complete further investigation
