GNDU Gets Prestigious Shaheed Bhagat Singh Punjab State Annual Environment Award, 2023

AMRITSAR: Guru Nanak Dev University has been honoured with the prestigious Shaheed Bhagat Singh Punjab State Annual Environment Award, 2023, in recognition of its remarkable efforts and significant contributions to improve and protect the environment of the state. The award was presented by the Chief Minister of Punjab, S. Bhagwant Singh Mann.

The award consists of a cash prize of Rs. One lakh, a certificate of appreciation and a silver plate. Under the visionary leadership of its Vice Chancellor, Prof Jaspal Singh Sandhu, the University has successfully implemented “Zero Waste-Green Campus” initiativesin recent years. These initiatives have effectively addressed the issues of waste management by implementing a comprehensive system of segregation and recycling of its garbage at source. Moreover, the University has actively promoted sustainable transportation methods such as the use of bicycles and e-buses, developed pedestrian-friendly pathways, restricted automobile entry and createda lush green campus with a variety of trees, shrubs, and seasonal flowers.

Recognizing their exemplary efforts in environmental conservation, Guru Nanak Dev University has also been given the title of District Green Mentor by the Government of Punjab and honored as a Water Champion by the Center for Science and Environment in New Delhi. Guru Nanak Dev University has not only made a significant impact in the field of environmental sustainability but has also emerged as a leading institution nationally in academics, research, and sports. The University holds the highest accreditation of NAAC (A++ Grade) with an outstanding CGPA of 3.85 out of 4, making it the Top University in the country among the State/Central/Private Universities in India, apart from Siksha 'O' Anusandhan (Institute deemed to be University).

Furthermore, Guru Nanak Dev University has achieved the coveted Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy in Sports, a remarkable 24 times. It has performed better than all State and Central Universities of the country in the seven criteria of NAAC which assesses the functioning and organizational focus. These criteria include Curricular aspects, Teaching- learning and evaluation, Research, innovations and extension; Infrastructure and Learning resources; Student Support and Progression; Governance, Leadership and Management; Institutional Values and Best Practices. In the NIRF 2023 rankings, which were declared today, Guru Nanak Dev University has further solidified its status by being the only Public University from the State which has made to the list of leading 50 universities at national level.

The University has consistently performed exceptionally well in all parameters set by the NIRF, achieving an impressive h-index of 136.Overall, Guru Nanak Dev University has demonstrated unwavering commitment and outstanding achievements in multiple domains, making it a beacon of excellence in academia, research, sports, and environmental stewardship.
