PHAGWARA: In a shocking incident, thieves broke into the house of a police sub-inspector in broad daylight in Tandi village, located in the Begowal area of Kapurthala district. The culprits scaled the boundary wall and forcibly entered the house by breaking door locks, escaping with cash, gold, and expensive liquor.

The house belongs to Sub-Inspector Dharaminder Singh, who is currently undergoing promotion training in Phillaur. At the time of the theft, only his wife, Santosh Kaur, was residing at home. On the morning of May 27, she left around 8 AM to attend a condolence ceremony at a relative’s house.

Upon returning in the evening, she found the main door’s lock broken and the contents of the cupboards scattered across the rooms. Realizing a robbery had taken place and being alone at the time, she immediately called for help from neighbors.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the thieves stole ₹40, 000 in cash, around two tolas of gold, and valuable liquor. The Begowal police recovered an iron rod from the scene, believed to have been used to break the locks.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. No arrests had been made yet.
