PHAGWARA: Kapurthala Police have registered a case following a complaint alleging that a young man was duped of ₹27,69,515 on the promise of securing permanent residency in Canada. According to the complaint, the case was registered on the basis of application UID 801587 dated April 28, 2026, submitted to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Kapurthala.
The complainant Manohar Lal Chandel alleged that the accused, identified as Arvinder Singh, Gurdeep Singh, David Arora and Baljinder Singh, had allegedly assured him that they would facilitate the permanent settlement of his son Prajwal Chandel in Canada. The complainant claimed that after receiving ₹27,69,515, the accused neither arranged the promised immigration status nor returned the money.
The complaint further alleged that when the money was demanded back, the accused allegedly issued threats of intimidation and harm, besides allegedly committing fraud and cheating. Following an inquiry into the allegations, police registered a case under Sections 318(4) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the four accused.
The accused have been identified as Arvinder Singh of SN Kot Immigration Services, SCO 143-144, First Floor, Sector 9-C, Chandigarh; Gurdeep Singh, associated with the same immigration service; David Arora, resident of Moga; and Baljinder Singh, resident of Chandigarh.
