Batala police busts fake currency rtacket: Ritsar based couple held

BATALA: The Batala Police has busted a racket involved in printing and circulating fake Indian currency notes (FICN) with the arrest of an Amritsar-based couple after recovering fake currencies of Rs 500 denomination worth Rs 30 lakh from their possession, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ashwini Gotyal here on Friday.

Those arrested have been identified as Sukhbir Singh and his wife Gurinderjit Kaur, both residents of Tarsikke in Amritsar.

SSP Ashwini Gotyal, while addressing a press conference, said that following reliable information, Batala Police has intercepted the couple in Batala and recovered Rs 30 Lakh FICN from their car, in which they were travelling.

She said that accused Sukhbir Singh, who had worked with Corporate Bank in Amritsar, has a criminal background as an FIR was registered against him for fraud of Rs 2.5 Crores. The accused has remained in jail as well, she added.

She said that working swiftly, Police teams have also raided the accused's house in Amritsar and recovered equipment/items used to print the currency.

Police teams have recovered 10 bundles of white papers for printing new fake currency, lamination machine for fitting wire in currency, an HP Colour Printer, Paper cutter and drier and sheet of wire from their house, she said, while adding that along with these, two cars— Verna and Alcazar— which were used in the crime have also been taken into custody.

The SSP said that further investigations are on to trace backwards and forward linkages in this case.
