PHAGWARA: A swift response by attendees and the presence of mind of the host prevented a major theft at a high-profile wedding reception held late Monday night at Haveli Heritage Pavilion, Phagwara. The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. during the reception of the son of Justice Jaswinder Singh, where a large gathering of relatives and guests from both families was present.
According to the complaint registered at Phagwara Police Station, Manraj Singh Gill, who works as the General Manager at Haveli Heritage Pavilion, noticed a suspicious movement near the VIP seating area during the peak of the event. Justice Jaswinder Singh was reportedly standing near a chair on the VIP floor where a bag containing cash had been placed.
At that moment, a young man, described as appearing to be an outsider and dressed in a coat and pants, allegedly attempted to discreetly lift the cash bag. The act was immediately noticed by Justice Jaswinder Singh, following which nearby guests intervened and managed to overpower and detain the suspect on the spot before he could flee.
Upon questioning at the venue, the accused disclosed his identity as Arjun sisodiya, a resident of Madhya Pradesh. Justice Jaswinder Singh informed those present that the bag allegedly contained approximately ₹10 lakh in cash, intended for wedding-related expenses.
The accused was subsequently handed over to the police, and a case was formally registered against him for attempting theft. Police officials confirmed that the accused was taken into custody and further investigation is underway to ascertain whether he was acting alone or if the attempt was part of a larger criminal plan.
