30 unidentified accused booked for attacking mining officers, stealing cash and other valuables.

PHAGWARA: The Shahkot police have booked more than thirty unidentified accused on the charges of attacking mining officers and stealing their valuable goods.

Jagsir Singh district mining officer Faridkot complained to the police and mining department headquarters to check illegal mining in side Dhussi Bandh of River Sutlej in the Shahkot subdivision.

He said that he along with his department officers and police personnel reached the demarcated site inside Dhussi Bandh Chak Bahmania village and found two tractor-trolleys loaded with illegal sand but there was no body.

Jagsir Singh said in his complaint that during the checking process about 35 persons on motorcycles tractors and other vehicles armed with sharp-edged weapons reached the spot and ransacked one official vehicle and headed toward us by using abusive language against them and threatening them to kill but police personnel on gaurd duty with us opened fire in the air from his official gun and saved them. He said they all fled to Chek Post High Teck Naka to save themselves.

Jagsir Singh said the accused fled with a loaded tractor trolly and a tractor without a trolly and stole Rs 5000, one laptop, and other valuables and documents from departmental vehicles.

He said the accused stopped them from performing their public duties and legal action should be taken against them.

The Investigating officer Balvir Chand said a case under sections 379(theft), 353(assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty )186(intentionally obstructing the performance of a public function by a public employee ) 411(dishonestly receiving stolen property )427(mischief )506(criminal intimidation ) 148 and 149(rioting ) of the Indian Penal Code and section 21 of the Mines and Minerals Act has been registered against unidentified accused and further investigations are on to identify them.
