October 16, 2019 05:06 PM

PHAGWARA-MUKERIAN:(Says Sri Akal Takth directives binding for SAD. Terms CM’s volte face on commitment of his ministers as unfortunate)
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal today said the SAD-BJP alliance was in the national interest as well as the interest of Punjab and that both parties were permanent allies in Punjab.
Addressing very large gatherings here and in Mukerian in support of BJP candidates Rajesh Bagha and Jangi Lal Mahajan, the SAD President said the SAD-BJP alliance was a symbol of peace and communal harmony in Punjab. He said some parties were spreading rumours of a rift between the SAD and the BJP to take political mileage in the forthcoming by-elections but they would not succeed. “People of Punjab understand the SAD and BJP offer unconditional support to each other. They also understand Pakistan is always trying to foment trouble but has been consistently thwarted in its evil designs due to the rock solid SAD- BJP alliance”. He said this alliance would continue for times to come.
Badal also highlighted how the NDA government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi had resolved long pending issues of the Sikh community. He said it was due to the affirmative action of the NDA government which reopened old massacre cases of 1984 and appointed SIT to reinvestigate them that genocide perpetrator Sajjan Kumar had been jailed. He said Jagdish Tytler and Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath would also meet the same fate soon. He said the manner in which the centre had extended support to the 550th Parkash Purb celebrations as well as its decision to construct the Kartarpur Corridor had answered the prayers of the entire Guru Naam Leva sangat.
Later while answering a query,   Badal said Sri Akal Takth Sahib was the supreme authority of the Sikh Panth and that it’s directives were binding on the SAD. He said it was unfortunate that the Congress party was still indulging in politics even after Sri Akal Takth Jathedar Singh Sahab Harpreet Singh had asked everyone to desist from the same. He said while the ministers who met the Sri Akal Takth Sahib Jathedar said one thing, the chief minister said the opposite and maintained the SGPC should restrict itself to the Gurdwara premises and leave it to the government to conduct the celebrations outside the Gurdwara. Mr Badal said putting such conditions when the entire Sikh qoum was gathered to commemorate the message of oneness was not in the interest of the Panth.
Earlier while addressing the gathering,   Badal said the Congress government did not have one achievement to showcase even after two and a half years in governance. He said all sections of society were being discriminated against with the farmers, khet mazdoor, youth and Dalits being the worst hit.
BJP President Shwet Malik while speaking on the occasion said all facilities started by the previous SAD- BJP government including old age pension, widow pension and Shagun scheme had been stopped even as corruption as well as drug and sand mafia were on the rise. Others present on the occasion included union minister Som Prakash, Vijay Sampla, Prabhat Jha, Dinesh Kumar, Tikshan Sud, SS Channy, Dr Daljit Cheema and Jarnail Singh Wahid.
