Press Club Elections: Drive-in style voting on personal request

BALBIR SINGH | March 24, 2022 09:07 AM

CHANDIGARH: To address the ‘fear psychosis’ of the spread of virus among the electorates during the polling on March 27Chandigarh Press Club has decided to set up a provision of casting vote on personal request of a member who wants to cast the vote without physically visiting the polling booth.

For this, drive-in style voting is the best option. A special polling booth would be set up, either in the parking lot or at the Club main gate. This area is already under CCTV surveillance, according to Returning Officer Vishal Gulati.

Except the Returning Officer, or an Assistant Returning Officer, no Club member or staff and even the cab driver will be allowed to stay near the special polling booth.

The voter without coming out of the vehicle can cast his/her vote. Such practice has been following in the past too in case of medical exigency.

The facility for a special polling booth will be extended only to those who opt it in advance with verbal or written submission with Club’s Assistant Managers -- either Mr. Narinder Sharma or Mr. Vinay Sharma.

This is the best way for physical distancing.

The Returning Officer sais"We will be working to keep our nearly 40 Club staff safe and healthy during the electioneering.

"We are also devising ways to curtail huddles during the election process that comprises the club victory party, which is going to be held with a gap of two years, and social networking parties in the run-up to the polls."

Meanwhile lists of 733 eligible voters and 33 ineligible voters have been issued by the Returning Officer.
