Asia’s Biggest Electric Solar Vehicle Championship 8.0 Organised by PEDA in association with Chandigarh Group of Colleges

CHANDIGARH:Chandigarh Group of Colleges in association with Punjab Energy Development Agency Staged the four days Mega Asia’s Biggest Electric Solar Vehicle Championship 8.0 at Jhanjeri Campus, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) which saw the convergence of students from Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Goa, and other states.

Total 21 teams have participated and put their heart, mind, and soul into coming out with unique creations in the form of solar-powered e-kart and e-bike. Judges from 14 distinguished organizations were invited to check the performance of each vehicle on various parameters and put the teams to showcase different tests. Coming out with such creations is no easy feat as many teams were observed sweating out day and night and scratching their head to come out with something that can work. Different technical tests checked the vehicles on their steering ability, their maneuverability on uneven terrain, e-bikes and e-kart were checked on high rise humps and on zig-zag patterns for their control and stability, the top speed that can be attained by vehicles, and how strong and effective were their braking mechanism. Teams had to pass their vehicle through multiple rounds of testing to come out as a winner.

Several dignitaries attended this nationwide event, including Dr. Raj Kumar Verka, Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities, New and Renewable Energy Sources Minister Punjab, Mr. Navjot Singh Randhawa, CEO PEDA, Mr. M.P. Singh, Director PEDA, Sh. Paramjit Singh, Senior Manager PEDA, Dr. Vikas Chawla, Dean Academics – PTU and Medical Education and Research, Govt. of Punjab. Top performing teams were awarded for their ingenious creations. Looking at the dedication of teams a cash prize of 1 Lakh was announced by the management of CGC Jhanjeri, in which 1st prize was given Rs. 50, 000, 2nd prize was given Rs. 30, 000 and 3rd prize was given Rs. 20, 000 award. Mr. Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President, CGC, Mr. Arsh Dhaliwal, Managing Director, CGC Jhanjeri also attended on this occasion. Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) is a state nodal agency for the promotion and development of renewable energy programs and energy conservation programs. PEDA has also signed the MoU with CGC Jhanjeri for Research & Demonstration activities in Energy Efficiency.
