CHANDIGARH: As many as 50 women from Dhanas attended a health talk on ‘mental health problems in women’ at Faith Hospital Chandigarh on Saturday. The talk was organized in collaboration with NGO, Naya Sawera Welfare Society.

Addressing the talk, Dr Damanjit Kaur, MD-psychiatrist and director at Faith said that women's mental health is multifactorial which is determined by both biological and social factors.

She said, women generally don’t shed out or discuss the mental happenings or feelings which lead to stress, anger, depression, headaches and migraines. Now in covid times since the children are at home now, the mental pressure has increased manifold among women.

She further said that women's mental health needs to be considered in the context of the interaction of physical, reproductive, and biological factors with social, political, and economic issues at stake. The various roles played by women are likely to lead to considerable stress.

In addition to this, biological factors may also play a major role, particularly in reproductive life events such as pregnancy, the postpartum period, and menopause as well as in the clinical manifestations of various mental health problems.

Living conditions like housing standards, density of housing, family income also play a huge role in mental health. Adverse economic conditions prejudice health status in measurable ways, she opined.

Among others, Nazm Khan, president, Sanjeev Verma, general secretary and Vijay Aggarwal, treasurer of Naya Sawera Welfare Society were also presented during the occasion.
