MOHALI: A one-day workshop on “Crop Residue Management” was organised by University School of Agriculture Sciences of Rayat Bahra University in collaboration and sponsorship with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Science University, Ludhiana. at the University Auditorium.
Agriculture students along with faculty members, dignitaries and experts, participated in the workshop.
The inauguration of the event started by lighting the lamp by Group Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Kumar of Rayat Bahra Group of Institutions.
Prof. (Dr.) Amita Mahajan, Dean, University School of Agriculture Sciences, welcoming the participants spoke about the importance of the workshop.
She said that it is the need of the hour to prevent the pollution caused to the environment and the resulting health problems due to the burning of paddy straw and also highlighted the importance of sustainable agricultural practices and emphasised the need for young agriculturists to adopt scientific approaches to crop residue management .
Group Vice -Chancellor delivered an inspiring and informative talk about the problems caused by burning paddy straw supported by a thoughtful poem and references to ancient scriptures vis-a-vis connected traditional wisdom with modern scientific approaches, urging students to adopt residue management techniques that preserve soil health, reduce pollution, and support sustainable agriculture.
