Teachers are the backbone of society, need due respect: RMS Chhina

AMARITSAR:Teachers are the backbone of any civilized society and they need due respect”. This was stated by Khalsa College Governing Council honourary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina during the award giving ceremony during the state level Best Teachers Award at Khalsa College of Education (KCE), GT Road, here today.

Citing an example of Japan where the teachers are taken in high esteem, he also asked the teachers to be the role model for their students. ``A teacher is a nation builder and good teacher is role model for his students throughout the life”, said he during his presidential address where he was the chief guest.

Meanwhile Harmeet Singh, Lecturer, Political Science from Baba Sohan Singh Government Senior Secondary School, Bhakna Kalan, Amritsar was awarded with Best Teacher Award with cash prize of Rs. Oen lakh and Citation while Prerna Khanna, Special Educator, Spring Dale Senior Secondary School, Amritsar was awarded with second prize of Rs. 25, 000 and citation. The third position was bagged by Surinderpal Singh, ETT teacher from Govt. Elementary Smart School, Muradpur, Naryal, Faridkot was awarded with cash prize of Rs. 15, 000 and a citation.

The Punjab Teacher of the Year Award-2021 was constituted in 2020 with the collaboration of Khalsa Global Reach Foundation (USA) to recognize teachers’ contributions for education and efforts to impart scientific education to the Society. Chhina earlier said teachers play a pivotal role in the society and pillars of a nation-building.

Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Principal, KCE said the award was started last year with the motive to appreciate the hard work of the deserving teachers. About 50 applications were received from government and private schools from whole of Punjab and the jury selected three best teachers on the basis of their contributions for the society. The other teachers namely Deepak Kumar, Amninderjit Singh Kohli, Guneet Arora and Amita Shingari were also awarded with a Shawal and citation each as appreciation award. Principal Harpreet Kaur thanked Khalsa Global Reach Foundation (USA) head Dr.Bakhsish Singh Sandhu, local head Dr.Sarbjit Singh Hoshiar Nagar, and Dr.Nirmaljot Kaur Sandhu for financing the award.
