Rayat Bahra University launches string of schemes under ESR

MOHALI: Rayat Bahra University has launched a number of initiatives for welfare of the people of the area under its Educators for Social Responsibility programme.

Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Chancellor of the Rayat Bahra University, in an interaction with media persons here today said that the university has emerged as a premier destination of professional education in north India.

Listing the initiatives undertaken by the Rayat Bahra University under its Educators for Social Responsibility programme, Bahra said that under its `Go Green Initiative’ students are made aware of their environment and they motivate members of the general public to conserve water resources and start recycling of products. The programme aims at contributing to the safety of the environment.

To provide preventive and curative healthcare, with special emphasis on women’s health, health screenings and consultation are done for chronic diseases like asthma, hypertension, diabetes and heart problems, thereby aiming to improve the health of the people, he added. The university provides 24/7 ambulance services to the general public catering to meet emergencies.

Dr. Parvinder Singh vice-chancellor RBU said that the university organizes free medical camps once a month on weekends providing healthcare services to people in the nearby villages. These camps are supervised by senior doctors and attended by nurses. Blood donation camps are organized in collaboration with nearby hospitals in the region. People who voluntarily participate in this programme are honoured.

Mr Singh said that the university has adopted the Education of Wheels scheme to educate children and young people as well as develop confidence, creativity and interest in science and technology subjects by use of visual aids and presentations, thereby making learning fun and enjoyable.

He said that to bring backward and rural government schools at par with city schools in terms of infrastructure and academic performance, the university has adopted schools in nearby villages to take up various initiatives with an aim of improving the quality of education in these schools.
