PFUCTO points at dubious distinction of Punjab

PUNJAB NEWS EXPRESS | June 07, 2022 10:34 PM

CHANDIGARH: Punjab has earned the dubious distinction for being the only state of India which has neither implemented the revised UGC pay scales nor adopted the UGC regulations of 2018.

Dr Jagwant Singh, General Secretary, Punjab Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organization (PFUCTO) said that on March 29, 2022, Chandigarh Administration adopted UGC regulations for the colleges of Chandigarh, and yesterday the Cabinet of Himachal Pradesh decided to implement Seventh UGC Pay Scales without waiting for notification of Punjab Government.

Dr Jagwant Singh said that University and College teachers had wholeheartedly supported the AAP in Punjab elections in view of its assurance to end the discrimination with University and College teachers. However, the hopes have been belied so far. In fact, the present government is evasive and is shying away from discussions with the stakeholders and thus pushing them towards an agitation. He urged upon the Punjab Government to show that it is committed towards taking care of education and is not making hollow statements.
