Hockey Chandigarh Celebrates International Olympic Day

CHANDIGARH: Cabinet Minister Punjab Mr. OP Soni said that in human history Olympic games played great roll for world peace and coopration. He was addressing the gathering at sector 42 hockey Stadium after inagurating function to commemorate the birth of the Modern Olympic Games on 23 June 1894.

soni congraulated all the sports lover and promoters on the occassion. Mr. Soni also announced rupees 5 lakh fincial assistance to Hockey Chandigarh

Speaking on the occassin Dr. Chander Shekhar,  Former D. G. P. Pb.  &. President, Hockey  Chandigarh said that Hundreds of thousands of people - young and old - participate in sports events, exhibitions, music & educational seminars. The activities on the Olympic Day, are mostly coordinated by the more than 200 National Olympic Committees(NOCs), all around the world.The goal is to promote the participation in sport, regardless of age, gender or athletic ability and to get as many people as possible, active.

On this occassion two Hockey exhibition matches were played.Girls  hockey match between Panjab University, Chandigarh

versus Govt. Model High School Sector 11, Chandigarh and second hockey  Match between boys of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College, Sector 26, Chandigarh versus Chandigarh Hockey Academy Chandigarh.

In the first match Panjab University win the match with 5-0 and in second match Shri Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College team win with 2-0.

On this occassion Mr. Soni honourerd Senior, Women Hockey  players who won the Silver Medal in 9th Hockey India Senior Women Hockey Championship 2019 and  Five, Chandigarh Hockey Players namely,    Sanjay, Maninder Singh, Amandeep, Sukhman Singh and Arshdeep Singh, who were selected for Junior National Camp, organised, by Hockey India.  Out of these Five players , Sanjay, Maninder Singh  and Amardeep Singh have been selected for Junior India Hockey Team, which is presently playing the, 8 Nation Hockey tournament in Spain .

Tejdeep Singh, Director Sports Chandigarh, Anupam Gupta, Director GBP Group and BK Bhardwaj were also present on the occasion.
