Haryana, Odisha, UP and Jharkhand enter semis;Punjab ousted

SIMDEGA (Jharkhand): Hockey Haryana, Hockey Odisha, Uttar Pradesh Hockey and Hockey Jharkhand progressed to the semifinals of the 11th Hockey India Sub Junior Women National Championship 2021 here today..

The semifinals will be played on March 17. Hockey Haryana will face Uttar Pradesh in the first semifinal while Hockey Odisha will clash with hosts Hockey Jharkhand.

In the first quarterfinal of the day, Hockey Haryana beat Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu by a resounding 23-0 margin. Kanika Siwach (1’, 9’, 19’, 22’, 28’) scored five goals while Sakshi Rana (4’, 15’, 21’, 36’) scored four goals. Tamanna Yadav (26’, 34’, 35’) scored three goals while Shashi Khasa (8’, 50’), Manisha (22’, 37’), Saavi (24’, 27’) and Bhateri (19’, 55’) scored two goals each. Ishika (14'), Nandni (52’) and Sejal (57’) scored one goal each for the defending champions.
In the second quarterfinal, Hockey Odisha overpowered Hockey Punjab by a 5-1 margin. Dipika Barwa (37’, 51’) netted twice while Nisha Dadel (13’), Rambha Kujur (41’) and Kanika Kerketta (27’) scored one goal each. Hockey Punjab Captain Sukhveer Kaur (55’) bagged a consolation late goal for her side.
In the third quarterfinal, Uttar Pradesh Hockey registered a commanding 11-0 win against Hockey Bihar to enter the last-four of the 11th Hockey India Sub Junior Women National Championship 2021. Khushi Rathor (40’, 43’, 57’) and Vandana Patel (13’, 31’, 39’) each scored hat-tricks. Sunita Kumari (18’, 49’) and Pushpanjali Sonkar (11’, 56’) scored two goals each while Peetambari Kumari (15’) scored one goal.
In the final match of the day, Hockey Jharkhand marched to a 16-0 win against Delhi Hockey in what was yet another high-scoring quarter-final. Sweety Dungdung (14’, 15’, 20, 49’, 49’) was the star of the show with five goals. Nisha Minj (9’, 18’, 54’) and Fulmani Bhengra (7’, 32’, 58’) registered three goals each. Balo Horo (12’, 51’) scored two goals while Purnima Barwa (23’) , Binima Dhan (32’) and Captain Niru Kullu (29’) picked up a goal each.
