Gunneswaran wins; Mukund, Kadhe, Rawat lose

CHANDIGARH: Indian players had mixed fortunes in the $ 81,200 ATP Challenger Tennis Tournament in Shanghai (China) today.
Top seed Prajnesh Gunneswaran moved into third round of singles by beating Jamesh Ward of Great Britian in straight sets 6-4, 7-6 in 78 minutes.
However, Arjun Kadhe and Sasikumar Mukund were beaten in the singles second round matches. Fourth seed Japanese Yasutaka Uchiyama ended the challenge of Arjun Kadhe (India) 7-6 (4), 6-3. Runhao Hua of China recorded straight sets win against Sidharth Rawat (India) 6-4, 6-4 in the first round fixture.
Second seeded Indian pair of Saketh Myneni and Divij Sharan sailed into doubles second round at the expense of Steven Diez (Canada) and Teymuraz Gabashvili (Russia) whom  they beat by 7-5, 6-4.
Playing his second round match after getting bye in first round Prajnesh Gunneswaran won 88 per cent points (30/34) on his first service and 76 per cent points (19/25) on second service. He won one break point out of two.
James Ward registered 79 per cent points (30/38) on his first service and 71 per cent points (15/21) on second service. Both players fired nine aces each and committed no double fault.
As many as 24 aces, including 14 by fourth seed Yasutaka Uchiyama of Japan who got the better of Arjun Kadhe 7-6 (4), 6-3 in the second round singles match.

Doubles (Ist round): Saketh Myneni and Divij Sharan (2) (India) bt Steven Diez (Canada) and Teymuraz Gabashvili (Russia) 7-5, 6-4.
