22 children orphaned during Corona pandemic identified so far: District and Sessions Judge

NAWANSHAHR: District Legal Services Authority Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar Chairman-cum-District and Sessions Judge Kanwaljit Singh Bajwa while issuing orders to the District Child Protection Officer here today directed her that under the Sponsorship and Foster Care Scheme for the upbringing of children orphaned during Corona epidemic in the district, financial assistance of Rs. 2, 000 per month be ensured under all circumstances.

During the meeting he said that so far 22 such children have been identified, out of which 10 children have been identified by the District Child Protection Unit and Child Welfare Committee and the rest are under investigation. He appealed to the residents of the district to contact the District Child Welfare Unit office if they have any such children in their knowledge.

On the occasion District Child Protection Officer Kanchan Arora said that the remaining 12 children would be screened soon and they would also be given the benefit of sponsorship and foster care scheme. She said that action was being taken by the department in this regard.

CJM-cum-Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Harpreet Kaur, said that information about the children orphaned during the Corona pandemic could be given at the Nawanshahr office of the District Legal Services Authority and also on phone numbers 01823-223511 and 01823-222322 or the related CDPO can also be contacted.
