Kainth meets Union Minister of state for SC repersentation in Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH: Paramjit Singh Kainth, President of the National Scheduled Castes Alliance today met the Union Minister of State of Commerce and Industry, Shri Som Parkash to bring into his notice the lack of representation of Scheduled Castes community in the Advisory committee of the UT of Chandigarh. The Advisory Committee provides a forum to Union Territories without legislatures for interaction between the Central Government and the elected representatives of the Union Territories on major issues of policy concerning the Territories.

Kainth said, “Chandigarh has, as per the Population Census 2011 data 19.1% of SC population out of the total population and hence it requires a reasonable number of representatives of the community to be a part of the Committee.

The Hon’ble Minister reassured us that this matter will be discussed with the Governor and proper remedial measures shall be taken to resolve the grievances of the community.”

Kainth also suggested that, “The committee should keep meaintain special consideration over the issues affecting the development of the Scheduled Castes community in the UT and should discuss those issue mandatorily in the meetings.”

It was also told that the NSCA will try to meet the Administrator of the UT, Shri V.P. Badnore regarding this issue and any try to find a solution to this issue and allow for adequate representation in the committee for the SC community.
