200 Chandigarh Youth to contest in 'Youth Parliament Festival 2019'

CHANDIGARH: Around 200 youths of city will lock horns with each in the first-of-its-kind initiative –Youth Parliament Festival 2019—of the central government at district level. The city is all set to organize the Youth Parliament at district level in the Government College for Commerce and Business, Sector 50 here on January 25, said Mr Bikram Rana, SLO, Chandigarh  NSS Cell.  It is being organized by the Regional Directorate of NSS and Chandigarh NSS Cell.

While talking to Mr Rana said that 200 youths have registered themselves through digital and walk-in process. Some have uploaded their contents through You Tube video.  He further stated that maximum of 50 best from digital screening and 50 best speakers from walk-in process would be shortlisted by the Jury consisting of MP, MLA, eminent political leader; retired or serving officers including armed forces; eminent artist, social personality, journalist, writer or educationist at district level and selected youths will participate at state level which will be held on February 5. .

The participants will be evaluated for articulation; clarity of thought; content knowledge and demeanor.  Each evaluation criteria to carry 25 points and final evaluation will be made out of 100 points. The best three speakers at district level will participate at the State level. The two best speakers at state level will participate at national level schedule for February 23-24. The three best speakers at national level will be awarded Rs two lakh; Rs 1.50 lakh and Rs one lakh respectively along with a certificate of merit.

National Youth Parliament Festival 2019 is organised on the theme of “Be the Voice of New India” and “Find solutions and contribute to policy”. Youth in the age bracket of 18-25 years are invited to participate in the District Youth Parliaments. This is done in order to hear the voice of youth in this age bracket who are allowed to vote but cannot contest in elections. The National Youth Parliament Festival will also encourage the youth to engage with public issues, understand the common man’s point of view, form their opinion and express these in an articulate manner. Relevant and effective voices on the vision of New India would be captured and documented to make these available to policy makers and implementers to take it forward.

The process is being initiated with effect from January 12 2019 and will continue up to February 24. The National Service Scheme and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangthan organizations will remain involved at different levels in its conduct and management.  The best three speakers at the National Youth Parliament will be awarded Rs. 2 Lakhs, Rs. 1.50 Lakhs and Rs. 1 Lakh respectively by the Prime Minister.

Besides providing a platform to develop and enhance youth’s decision making abilities, it will obtain and document their opinions on Vision New India-2022. Best ideas and solutions will be provided to policy makers and implementers to resolve country’s problems, says Mr Rana.
