Missing Minor Case Reaches Punjab and Haryana High Court After Repeated Police Follow-Ups
JALANDHAR: The disappearance of a minor boy, Satinder Kumar, has reached the Punjab and Haryana High Court after his family allegedly made repeated approaches to the local police seeking effective steps to trace him.
According to the petition filed before the High Court, Satinder went missing on June 30, 2026. His mother, Manju Devi, approached Police Post Paragpur under Police Station Cantt, Jalandhar, following which FIR No. 111 dated June 30, 2026 was registered under Section 127(6) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
The petition alleges that despite repeated visits to the police station and requests for action, the minor remained untraced and the family was not apprised of any meaningful progress in the investigation.
According to Angad Dutta, District President, Youth Congress Jalandhar (Urban), the family was initially assisted by Youth Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Bhinda, who helped pursue the matter with the police and secure registration of the FIR. However, the family allegedly continued visiting the police station for nearly a month without satisfactory results.

Dutta subsequently took up the matter and connected the family with the Maan Law Firm, Chandigarh. Advocates Dilraj Singh Maan and Prabhsimran Singh Maan, along with Advocate Sahil Koul, moved the High Court seeking directions for an effective and expeditious investigation.
The petition sought, among other measures, preservation of CCTV footage, examination of witnesses, deployment of search teams and coordination with neighbouring districts and specialised agencies. It also sought consideration of a Special Investigation Team headed by a senior police officer.
The matter, CRM-M-44369-2026, Manju Devi vs. State of Punjab and Others, was heard on August 12, 2026. The High Court directed the State of Punjab to file a short affidavit of Respondent No. 3 addressing the assertions made in the petition and adjourned the matter to August 24, 2026.
Dutta said the objective was to ensure that every possible lawful effort was made to trace the child safely and that the family received proper information regarding the investigation.
The family and legal team are now awaiting the State's response and the next hearing before the High Court.
