Punjab Government to supply 5.75 lakh quintal certified wheat seed on subsidy

CHANDIGARH: The Agriculture Department of Punjab Government has started district-wise programme to distribute Certified Wheat Seeds on subsidized rates to farmers under the National Food Security Mission and Rashtriya Krishi VikasYojna projects.

A spokesperson of the Agriculture Department has revealed that total 5.75 lakh quintal Certified Wheat Seed will be supplied in the state under the said projects. He also said that a large number of farmers have already been procured the certified seed and sowing of wheat is in full swing in the State. He said that subsidy amount shall be transferred to their respective account numbers to take timely benefit of this unique farmer friendly scheme.

He said that the government is offering a subsidy equal to the 50% of total cost of seeds or to a maximum extent of Rs. 1000 per quintal which is directly transferred to the bank account of the farmer. Additional Chief Secretary (Development) Mr. Suresh Kumar monitoring this scheme.

He said that in the future the government will adopt the same policy to transfer assistance under different schemes directly to the bank accounts of the farmers.
