USA begin their campaign with a match against Trinidad and Tobago in PAC

SANTIAGO (CHILE): An 18-athlete USA Team will compete in the 2022 Pan American Cup (PAC) from January 19 to 30 in Santiago (Chile). The US national team was announced by U.S. Men’s National Team Head Coach Harendra Singh (Harry) Singh at the conclusion of training camp two matches against Canada, according to USA Field Hockey.

In the eight-team competition, No. 24 USA are in Pool B with No. 11 Canada, No. 30 Mexico and No. 37 Trinidad and Tobago. Pool A includes reigning PAC champions No. 7 Argentina, No. 29 Chile No. 33 Brazil and No. 42 Peru.

USA will open their campaign against Trinidad and Tobago on January 20. On January 22, USA will challenge hosts Canada while on January 24, USA play Mexico.

"We had two weeks of intensive training with Test matches against Canada, " said Singh. "Based on performance, we have selected 18 athletes plus two reserves for the forthcoming PAC. We made some good progress and, as a coach, I am looking forward to see exciting results. We are all aware of the importance of this tournament - eventually two finalist will take part in the World Cup. Our players are highly motivated and eager to perform."

In September, a new squad was named following two Open Trial Weekends which returned a solid group that has been with the program for the past few years. Of the PAC selected, an impressive 11 were at the edition in 2017, where the team earned third. This is led by Pat Harris (Moorpark, Calif.), also USMNT Assistant Coach, who has 151 caps to his name. Joining him are Michael Barminski (Ventura, Calif.), Ajai Dhadwal (Agoura Hills, Calif.), Mohan Gandhi (Great Britain), Aki Kaeppeler (New York City, N.Y), Adam Miller (Panama City, Fla.), Johnny Orozco (Ventura, Calif.), and Paul Singh (Simi Valley, Calif.), all who have more than 75 caps.

The two selected goalkeepers are Hamzah Hashmi (Granada Hills, Calif.) and Jonathan Klages (Berlin, Germany), who was at the 2017 event.
