Water Resources Department creates record with 104 promotions on various posts during lockdown: Sarkaria

CHANDIGARH:On the initiative of Water Resources Minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria, 104 officials in various cadres of the department have been promoted during curfew/lockdown.

Disclosing this here today Mr. Sarkaria said that the Water Resources Department have a vital role for farmers of Punjab and under the direction of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, the department has done exemplary work during this time. He said that even during the lockdown, the officers/employees of the department were engaged in the task of cleaning the distributaries/ minors. Apart from this the officers/staff of the Water Resources Department have provided Rs. 1.60 crore as assistance to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to fight against Corona Virus.

Divulging details of works being done by the department, the Cabinet Minister said that 45 per cent work on the main dam of Shahpurkandi Dam project has been completed despite the restrictions imposed to contain the spread of COVID-19. He said that the Department had resumed the construction work of Shahpurkandi Dam on April 29, 2020, ensuring all the safety measures mentioned under 'Mission Fateh' to prevent any eventuality. He said that power generation in this project is expected to start by August 2023. This will further strengthen the irrigation facility and produce non eminent electricity which will become sustainable source of energy in the state.

Informing about the promotions carried out in the department, a spokesperson of Water Resources Department said that 5 Superintending Engineers have been promoted as Chief Engineers while 25 Executive Engineers have been promoted as Superintending Engineers. Similarly 43 JEs/Assistant Engineers have been promoted as Sub Divisional Officers (SDOs) and 31 Revenue Clerks/Chief Revenue Clerks have been promoted as Ziledar (District Collector).
