Vet Varsity celebrates World Health Day with school students

LUDHIANA: Centre for One Health, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, (GADVASU) celebrated the World Health Day on 7th April with the students of PAU Sr. Sec. Smart School. World Health Day is celebrated at international level every year to raise awareness about the ongoing health issues that concern people across the world.

The day is used as an opportunity to spread awareness about the overall health and well-being of people. The theme of World Health Day-2022 was “Our Planet, Our Health”. Post matric students from PAU School accompanied by teachers visited the Centre for One Health, GADVASU on 7th April. Dr. Jasbir Singh Bedi, Director Centre for One Health educated the students about the importance of better personal hygiene and healthy eating habits to reduce the burden of infectious diseases. He also briefed that One Health approach is the need of the hour which supports global health security by improving coordination, collaboration and communication at the human-animal-environment interface to address shared health threats such as antimicrobial resistance, zoonotic diseases, food safety and environment health. Dr. Bedi told them about the ongoing teaching, research and extension activities of the Centre and appraised the students about carrier opportunities in GADVASU.

Dr. Manjeet Sharan, PG scholar presented a technical lecture on antimicrobial resistance in concerns to its global challenge for the society. Dr. Ravneet Kaur moderates the visit and tour of the school students to the Centre of One Health. Both teachers and students also visited the research laboratories of the Centre, where they interacted with the researchers and discussed their queries. Mrs. Rajdeep and Mrs. Neelam, PAU School teachers conferred their sincere thanks to the university authorities for giving them opportunity to visit the Centre and have an interactive session with the experts from the University. Dr. Inderjeet Singh Vice- Chancellor, GADVASU appreciated the efforts undertaken by Centre for One Health to create health awareness among young minds.
