AMRITSAR: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has asked the Punjab government to declare holiday on January 16 on the eve of birth anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh.

In a letter to the Punjab government to SGPC has asked the government to declare an official holiday in banks on 17 January 2024 on the occasion of Prakash Gurpurab of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

In this regard, when various bank associations and unions raised the matter before the SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the Punjab government should look into this important matter.

He said that the birth anniversary of the tenth Guru is celebrated with devotion and enthusiasm by the devotees and on this occasion, the holiday should be uniform for every employee class.

Regarding this matter, the Secretary of the Shiromani Committee. Pratap Singh has written a letter to Punjab Chief Secretary Mr. Anurag Verma and said that it has been brought to the attention of the Shiromani Committee by various unions that this time the government has not declared Prakash Gurpurab as a holiday in the banks, while earlier every year officially declared holiday is also applicable in banks.

He asked the Chief Secretary that necessary action should be taken in this regard, because due to non-declaration of holiday, there is a sense of protest among the officers and employees related to the banks as well as the ongoing tradition has been violated.

He said that it should be taken on the basis of urgency and priority.
