Punjab Vidhan Sabha Monsoon session: AAP to raise anti-Punjab ordinances and SYL, other core issues

CHANDIGARH: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs, led by Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema, met here on Tuesday to discuss the issues of import vital to Punjab and its people in view of the one-day session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, scheduled for August 28.

In a statement issued from party headquarters, Harpal Singh Cheema said the party had decided to take up the issue of anti-agriculture ordinances in the House, water crisis and SYL, Central Electricity Amendment Bill 2020, the Montek Singh Ahluwalia report and other issues of private school fees in Punjab during the one-day long session.

Cheema said "The government of Punjab has betrayed the people of the state by truncating the Monsoon session to a mere four-hour session, which is a mockery of democracy, as the corrupt and mafia-ridden ‘ Royal’ government in the state cares two hoots for the peoples’ issue. It has lost all courage to face stinkers from the Opposition. Nonetheless, we shall bring the government on board over all major issues vital to Punjab and its people"

Cheema said that, on behalf of the party, Sunam MLA Aman Arora had sought permission from the Speaker to bring a resolution in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha to repeal the Anti-Agriculture Ordinances and Central Power Amendment Bill, 2020.

MLAs Meet Hayer and Principal Budhram informed that the call attention motions had already sent to Speaker’s approval with regard to straw burning, running  Bathinda thermal plant on straw instead of closing it down, while Bibi Sarabjit Kaur Manuke and Rupinder Kaur Ruby had sent regarding Asha workers and employees-unemployed issues, et al.

Cheema said the government should have extended the session of Vidhan Sabha for at least 15 days to discuss and debate threadbare the issues and concerns, besides ensuring live telecast of the proceedings of the session and permitting the media to cover the session from the Punjab Vidhan Sabha complex under stipulated guidelines.

The crucial meeting was attended by among others included, Principal Budhram, Bibi Sarabjit Kaur Manuke, Aman Arora, Meet Hayer, Jai Krishan Singh Rouri, Manjit Singh Bilaspur, Master Baldev Singh and Rupinder Kaur Ruby while Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Prof. Baljinder Kaur, Kulwant Singh Pandori (All MLAs) participated through video calling.

The meeting was also attended by Manjit Singh Sidhu, Office Secretary to the party's Vidhan Sabha and Sudesh Kumar, Assistant Office Secretary.
