Punjab Police to check chemists selling banned drugs

KAPURTHALA: In order to tightening the noose around illegal sale of prohibited drugs Tramadol, Tapentadol, and Etizolam, the Kapurthala police have chalked out a comprehensive strategy to wipe out the menace and take severest of severe action against the culprits.

Disclosing more information, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said that under the plan, various teams of police led by senior rank officers have been formed and have been tasked to keep close vigil. He said that the licences of the all chemist shops are being cross-checked.

He said that these teams would hold meetings with the chemists and have been instructed not to sell drugs like tramadol without any prescription by medical experts. He added that Tramadol tablet is a ‘Schedule H’ drug and used as a painkiller, and can be sold only on prescription but was being misused by blacksheeps.

Besides, he appealed all the chemists to maintain the stock register of sale-purchase of such drugs.
Meanwhile, chemist store owners assured the Kapurthala police that they would not indulge in any kind of malpractice and inform the police about any such medicines being sold illegally by anyone in the market.

SSP said that the Kapurthala police is committed to wipe out drug menace in the state and would leave no stone unturned to ensure drug free society.
