PSPCL CMD visited State Load Dispatch Centre to review Power Supply Situation

PATIALA: To meet with the rising demand of electricity in the ongoing paddy season, the Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), A. Venu Prasad on Tuesday visited the state load dispatch center (SLDC) and reviewed the power supply situation for all categories of consumers.
Er.Parmjeet Singh director generation, Er.Yogesh Tandon director technical PSTCL and senior officers were also present the occasion.
PSPCL CMD A.Venu Prasad stated that in order to meet with unprecedented rise in demand keeping in view the constraints of the power system, Punjab state Power Corporation Limited is purchasing maximum available power from the open energy exchange market. He said that on July 4 PSPCL have purchased 1178 MW with the cost of Rs 4.07/ per unit.
He said that PSPCL has power purchased power due to failure of second unit of TSPL (660MW) and less power generation from Bhakhra dam (due to lower water level).
He said that against the maximum demand of 13, 148MW in the year 2020-21, the PSPCL has supplied 13, 525 MW power in the state. On 4thjuly PSPCL catered the 13, 213 MW from all sources i.e. 8, 188 MW (outside state, including purchase), 2, 425MW (IPPs), 1, 740MW (own thermal) and 860 MW (own thermal).
Reiterating the Punjab Government commitment PSPCL is ensuring uninterrupted 8 hour electricity supply to the agriculture sector, On July 4, 2021 average 10.3 hours supply provided to agriculture sector (i.e. border zone 14.7 hour, north zone 11 hours and south zone 10.2 hours). This was stated by A.Venu Prasad CMD PSPCL besides he also reiterated that in case of any disruption in power supply, agriculture consumers shall be duly compensated.
During visit to SLDC office, CMD A.Venu Prasad showed keen interest in power regulations details and appealed to SLDC officers to accept various challenges being faced by PSPCL/PSTCL during the ongoing peak demand period and commit themselves for consumers of the state.
Earlier CMD PSPCL A.Venu Prasad took a review meeting, regarding power situation of the Punjab Er.DPS Grewal director distribution, Er.Gopal Sharma director commercial, Er.Parmjeet Singh director generation and other senior officers also present .
During the meeting various regulatory measures imposed on the Industry last week also discussed . It was observed that supply to agriculture consumers has improved considerably. It was deliberated that as per the IMD weather forecast, the southwest monsoon is likely to be delayed and as a result the continuous dry spell shall continue further causing the demand to remain on higher side. It was also observed that PSPCL shall have to keep meeting peak demand of around 13500 MW in the coming days.
In the meanwhile, the shortage of power caused due to forced outage of another unit of TSPL has been managed. This unit is likely to be revived on 6.7.21, bringing relief to the system.
