CHANDIGARH: PPCC president Sunil Jakhar today urged AICC chief Sonia Gandhi and former party president Rahul Gandhi to launch a nationwide campaign to democratically oust the insensitive Modi government.
Terming PM Modi-led BJP govt as a death knell for the democratic system, poor people and farmers, he said that the entire Punjab and Congress stood by farmers who were observing “Black Day” on completing six months of their historic struggle on May 26. “We salute their spirit for not only fighting to save the farming but also protect the democracy by vehemently opposing the unholy BJP-Corporates nexus. Congress has always believed that this battle based on principles will last a long time, so we must plan accordingly to win it, " he said.
The State Congress President said that besides farmers’ issue, the Modi government had also failed miserably on all fronts. In the unprecedented Covid 19 crisis, the BJP govt has led the nation to such a pathetic position where managing to stay alive seems to be the main aim of a common citizen. As Modi government failed to deal with covid, the country's reputation at the international level stands tarnished. Millions of people were wandering for oxygen; vaccination centers had to be shut as the Center did not plan for availability in advance. Cremation of thousands of bodies could not be done by following their traditions and beliefs. The highly insensitive Modi govt thus has no right to stay in power.
Jakhar said that it was imperative for all political parties to launch a massive campaign to democratically remove the Narendra Modi govt which had emerged as a threat to the federal structure, poor people and the survival of the peasantry. It was necessary to save farmers who felt hurt by the deadly policies of the BJP government.
He said that May 30 marks completion of the 2nd year of the Modi government and hence this day would be the best time to launch such a national campaign. Sonia Gandhi Ji was the most suitable personality to lead the campaign and appealed to her to work with all parties to come up with a strategy to safeguard the democracy of the country in this time of crisis. “It was not just a matter of agriculture black laws, if the BJP govt remained in power then nothing will be safe and secure in the country. “All the parties should unite and work on such a campaign to save the country, he added.
