Power surplus Punjab imposes two days off for industry

Power surplus Punjab has been forced to impose restrictions on the power supply to the industry following hue and cry by the farmers and public over unscheduled long power cuts in the state.

PSPCL has decided today to impose two days weekly off for the industrial consumers with immediate effect starting from today (Thursday ) at 4 PM.PSPCL has also appealed to the government and public sector
offices to restrict the use of air conditioners in the offices for the next three days.PSPCL has also requested BBMB to increase peak-time supply in view of the power crisis in Punjab.

PSPCL has been facing backlash for not supplying 8 hours of committed power supply to agriculture as it was unable to meet the demand of 14500 MW. PSPCL can import 7300 MW from the northern grid and it has about 5900 MW
power available within the state. Thus it can meet the maximum demand of 13200 MW.
On Wednesday, Punjab has been maintaining a power supply between 11791 MW to 12842 MW after restricting the power supply to rural consumers, agriculture pump sets, and unannounced cuts in cities.
The power demand in Punjab touched 14142 MW while the state supplied a maximum of 12842 MW. There is a gap of about 1330 MW between demand and supply as per the NRLDC daily report.
The power shortage during evening peak hours is 2100 MW with a supply of 12380 MW. On Wednesday the PSPSL supplied 2979 lakh units in the state and there were at least 251 lakh units of power shortage supply. On Tuesday there were a demand shortage of 1550 MW and 132 lakh units of power supply.

The thermal generation in the state was 1000 lakh units comprising 325 lakh units by state sector thermal plants and 675 lakh units by the private sector.
Hydropower supply in the state is 223 lakh units and Bhakra units supplied about 80 lakh units to Punjab.

The water level in Bhakra Dam is 1525.6 feet against last year's level of 1582.3 feet down by 57 feet. The generation at Bhakra powerhouses is 197 lakh units and Punjab share is 40 % of the generation.BBMB is generating an average of around 800 MW in a day with an evening peak of 1050 MW.
Today al the units at Ropar, Lehra Mohabatt, Rajpura, GVK Goindwalare generating power. Two units of Talwandi Sabo are also running today.
