CHANDIGARH: The Food Safety teams cracked on eleven Ghee Manufacturing Units indulging into manufacturing of Cooking Medium without the requisite license, informed KS Pannu, Commissioner Food and Drug Administration Punjab.

Divulging into details, Pannu said that for the manufacturing of ghee, firms are required to obtain a license from the State where the manufacturing unit is to be set up. But, for manufacturing of a Cooking Medium which involves mixing of milk fats to vegetable oil, a license under Proprietary Category is required to be obtained from Central Agency. In Proprietary Category licenses are given when the Central Agency finds that the blended/mixed ingredients meet the requisite benchmark, said he adding that the manufacturers engaged in production of sub standard Cooking Medium flout norms, dupe the people as well as Food Safety Teams by manufacturing sub standard Cooking Medium under the garb of Desi Ghee Manufacturing License.

Since these firms had licenses to manufacture a certain product but were found manufacturing different products so they were issued show cause notices, said he and after non-receipt of legitimate reply , their licenses have been cancelled so that they may not misuse the same, said he. They cannot manufacture/ sell cooking medium until and unless they procure the requisite licenses under proper category.

The licenses have been cancelled of eight firms from District Bathinda namely New S.K Agro Industry , Ashoka  Agro, Anmol Food Rampura Phul , Shri Balaji Trading , BS Agro, Goyal Sons, A R Agro Industry and Merry Agro, two from Mansa including  Ganesh Agro Foods and Shri Krishna Foods and one from Barnala namely Jugal Kishore and Company.
