Governor, chief minister should intervene and secure Dhaner's pardon: Harpal Singh Cheema

CHANDIGARH: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Punjab, has said that it strongly stands for the grant of pardon to prominent kisan leader, Manjit Singh Dhaner, in deference to the sentiments of the people and various social organizations fighting for the cause.

In a joint statement issued from party headquarters on Thursday, Senior party leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP), Harpal Singh Cheema, Core Committee Chairman and MLA Principal Budh Ram, Deputy Leader of Opposition (Dy LoP) Bibi Sarabjit Kaur Manuke, Meet Hayer, Kulwant Singh Pandori and Manjit Singh Bilaspur (All MLAs) said  

that the party was fully in support of the demand for grant of pardon to Manjit Singh Dhaner and expressed its solidarity with the anti-Kiranjeet murder action committee, Mahal Kalan and the state-level action committee fighting for the exemption of the kisan leader from life imprisonment.

Harpal Singh Cheema informed that he was in constant touch with Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh's office in this regard, adding that earlier he (Cheema), along with party MLAs, Meet Hayer, Kulwant Singh Pandori and state general secretary, Master Prem and members of the action committee had already met the Governor of Punjab and submitted a memorandum to intervene and secure pardon to the Kisan leader.

The AAP leaders has demanded that Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Punjab Governor VP Singh Badanor, should immediate intervene and seriously mull over the grant of pardon to Manjit Singh Dhaner who had been awarded life imprisonment, saying the issue concerned teeming millions of people not only of Barnala district but the entire Punjab.
