DC and SSP review de-silting work on Gidderpindi Railway bridge to check floods in future

GIDDERPINDI(Jalandhar):Around 1600 feet of land to be de-silted at a cost of Rs 50 lakh within a fortnight
The Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar  Varinder Kumar Sharma and Senior Superintendent of Police  Navjot Singh Mahal today reviewed the ongoing work of de-silting of the Gidderpindi Railway track on the downstream of river Satluj.
The Railways Department was executing this work at an estimated cost of Rs 50 lakh with the active support of renowned environmentalist Sant Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal.
The Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police said that the work which was of immense significance would be completed within a fortnight by the Railway authorities with the active support of volunteers of Sant Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal. They said that 5 to 12 feet sand scattered over around 1600 feet land at varied spots would be de-siltedfrom under the Railway bridge at Gidderpindi for which special permission has been given the Ministry of Railways. They said that strenuous efforts have been made by the district administration to get these approvals and to expedite the work for preventing floods in the coming times.
the Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of  Police said that they were well aware of the fact the de-silting under the Railway bridge was the need of the hour to prevent any damage by the floodwater in the coming times. They said that the district administration in general and the state government, in particular, was duty-bound to ensure that no damage was caused to life and property of the people for which every sort of preventive measure would be taken. Both the officers further said that de-silting was required to ensure that excess water, if any, passes from beneath of this bridge smoothly without any hindrance.
The Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police said that all our efforts would be made to safeguard the interests of the people. They assured fulsome support and cooperation to the Railways and volunteers of Baba Seechewal for this work adding that they were according top priority to this work keeping in view the larger public interest.  On the occasion Senior Divisional Engineer Railways Anurag, Sub Divisional Magistrate Dr Sanjeev Sharma, Deputy Superintendent of Police Piara Singh, Revenue Officers  Pradeep Kumar and  Pargan Singh besides others were also present.
