CHANDIGARH:Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab state president and MP Bhagwant Mann has termed the Punjab government's decision to sell plasma (blood) at Rs 20, 000 per unit to patients undergoing corona treatment in private hospitals in the state as inhuman and a shameful decision.

In a statement issued from party headquarters on Wednesday, Bhagwant Mann said the decision of the govt to sell plasma donated by the brave ‘warriors’ to other patients battling the killer coronavirus, which had proved the Capt. Amarinder Singh government as the peoples’ blood sucker.

Bhagwant Mann warned the Captain government that if it did not reverse its decision forthwith, the Aam Aadmi Party would stage protests across the state on July 31, adhering to the prescribed Corona guidelines.

The AAP MP said: "First of all, I urge the Chief Minister to come out of the cosy 'farmhouse' confines and show a semblance of courage to face the bitter realities. He should try to understand in the first place that the cross-subsidized economic model of selling blood (plasma) donated by the corona survivors was a shameful act on the part of the government. He should come out of the supine pastures and take steps to effectively deal with the epidemic by establishing direct contact with the people and the victims in the same way as the Arvind Kejriwal government in Delhi had been doing to take on the epidemic.

Citing an example of the Delhi government, Mann said that it was not selling plasma to any patient there even if he/ she was getting treatment in a private hospital, saying the plasma donated by the survivors was still provided to the patients, free of charge.

The AAP leader said that if treatment facilities were made available to the people in government hospitals, they prefer treatment in government hospitals than in private hospitals, saying that as government hospitals in the state were already in a ramshackle condition, they (The people) were left with no option but to borrow money for treatment in private hospitals.

Bhagwant Mann, terming the alleged deaths of a businessman from Ludhiana, admitted to a Corona Care Center despite non availability of a bed in the hospital and that of a professor from Abohar who succumbed to the killers corona as plain ‘murder’, demanding a judicial inquiry into the matter.
