Bir Devinder warned of serious consequences if a football match is allowed on Shaheedi Jod Mela

December 04, 2019 05:40 PM

FATEHGARH SAHIB: Taking a serious note of the news item prominently appeared in the media today that the Khalsa Football Club is hosting a Football match on 28th December at the grounds of Mata Gujri College Fatehgarh Sahib, Bir Devinder Singh former Deputy Speaker and senior SAD(T) leader has warned that his party along with Sikh Sangat will not allow under any circumstances the recurrence of such funny  things like holding cultural, political and sports activities at Fatehgarh Sahib on the eve of Saheedi Jor Mela.

He said that it is a matter of great concern that the organisers who claimed to be the warriors of the Sikh cause and organising match of only Sikh players must know that on 27th December the younger Sahibjadas of Guru Gobind Singh Ji were subjected to horrendous tortures before being bricked alive and they were cremated on 28th December. He said 28th December is the day of mourning for the entire Sikh Community moreover Guru Gobind Singh Ji sacrificed their entire family during this week of December.

He said that with a great struggle they have succeeded in eliminating the menace of circuses, swings, dances, gambling and intoxicants from this land of great martyrs and now again the so called Sikh organisations are trying to vitiate the semblance of a highly spiritual and religious atmosphere by holding matches. He urged the organisers as well as the district administration not to host the match on 28th December and to change the dates in the larger interests of Sikh community; otherwise they will be forced to protest en mass.

It is worth mentioning that yesterday Harjit Singh Grewal, Deputy Director Public Relations Punjab had issued a press release that Khalsa Footbal club will hold a football match for Sikh players only on 28th December at Mata Gujri College grounds. SGPC President Gobind Singh Longowal will inaugurate the match, where as Giani Harpreet Singh Jathedar Akal Takhat Sahib will give away the Prize to the winners. Bir Devinder Singh said they had already thwarted such mischievous attempt by SGPC to hold Kabaddi Tournament  on the martyrdom day of the Sahibzadas, some years back when Mr. Avtar Singh Makkar was SGPC President.

How could anybody think of indulging in any sort of fun and frolic on such a sublime occasion, he questioned? Do we play Football soon after the funeral of our children and Grand Mother that too together in one pyre? It’s preposterous that the SGPC is seemingly sponsoring this nonsense venture and made their ground available for such a silly event on the day of historical reckoning for the Sikhs.  Bir Devinder Singh warned the administration and the SGPC of serious consequences if a football match is allowed to be played on 28th December  at Fatehgarh Sahib in utter disregard of the religious sentiments of the Sikh community.
