Army helicopter makes emergency landing near Rupnagar

CHANDIGARH: A helicopter of Indian army around 10 AM today made an emergency landing at village Banh Majra on Chandigarh-Manali National Highway near Rupnagar. The helicopter was on its way from Chandigarh to Pathankot.

Ravi Kumar Assistant Superintendent of Police Rupnagar told media persons that helicopter had develpoed a snag and pilot made a safe emergency landing near the village. It was risky landing because 66 KV high tension power line was very close and village was also very close to landing spot. The pilot had no choice but to make an emergency landing, he added.

The senior district officials rushed to the spot. SDM Morinda Harbans Singh and SDM Chamkaur Sahib Mankanwal Singh Chahal reached the spot and facilitated the army officials. Another helicopter of army with maintenance team reached the landing spot and repaired the fault. The helicopter resumed its flight at 1.30 PM.
