Farmer's protests: A call for change

Revolution for change demands enthusiasm, once it starts people itself start gathering, the historical facts of decisive revolutions enclosed in the books of history tells the tales of the downfall of emperors and victory of common people. Who will start or raise the voice first, this major question has resulted in the end of many revolutions before their start. Later, the starter becomes the leader, it's also true,

Dr, Dharamjeet Singh
The state of Punjab hasn't seen revolution in the form a historic protest since decades, even during countrywide emergency people didn't gather in the crowd of lakhs but the famers' protests at the borders of New Delhi which have started in the month of November last year, since ten months are in continuous flow have shown the people around the world that still protests can be called on to protect rights. People by throwing away the limits of caste, creed and occupation have come in the support of farmers to encircle the union government of India over the passing of three black farm laws which would shake the farming sector from its roots, the implementation of three black laws would take away the right on land and crops from farmers and would hand it over to big businessmen which will direct the farmers to sow and reap according to their wish and market demand, the farming sector would become like a market or a platform to produce raw material for exportation by the big businessmen.

To protect land and occupation the farmers have stood in front of Modi government to pressurize it for abolishing three black laws, though the union government is adamant to implement these laws, farmers are with stand to pull them down. This sort of protest which the farmers have initiated hadn't been seen in past decades, it has awaken the people who have forgot to fight for their rights and it has made people stronger to stand against politicians from whom they scare earlier. The farmer's protest has sent the message abroad also; people channelize their energy and support to strengthen the protest because they know without farmers it would be difficult to feed millions of people. The political outfits and their leaders especially in the states like Punjab, Haryana and some parts of Uttar Pradesh haven't seen such huge protest by anguished farmers; farmers have barred the politicians to organize political rallies and seminars, in Punjab it looks like that without farmers' support and vote no party would come to power this time.

Mockery of Democracy

The farmers with their occupation are called the backbone of India and Indian economy, they have made it to stand in the queue of developing nations, the passing of three black laws have created trouble for the farming sector but the government and the politicians with wham's signatures these laws have been passed are reluctant not to abolish them, the government is not ready to give respect to what the people say and demand, it can be called a mockery of democracy.

The major problem is to start a protest or an agitation. People fear to fight against mighty politicians; they don't raise voice and remain dumb in spite of seeing their rights being smothered away in front of them. This behavior of common men has made them slaves in the hands of people whom they have elected for the purpose of governing country and states in an efficient manner but the scenario is its opposite, the corrupt people who are chosen through vote to govern can be seen fulfilling their pockets and making rules and laws which would crush the source of bread for the common man.

The definition defining the meaning of a government in democracy is 'A government for the people, of the people and by the people' but by seeing the present scenario on Delhi borders, where the farmers are agitating to protect their land and occupation from the hands of big businessmen by scraping off three farm laws, it looks as if democracy and government have become meaningless.

The government elected by the people is not listening what the people say and what are they demanding for, forcefully the laws are loaded on farmers. It's the mockery of the system being voted by people under democracy. In such situations the foreign countries which respect the soul of democracy must have step in or should have supported farmers to raise their voice against the union government of India, Canada has done this, it's is really appreciable.

In fact, the farmers' protests against implementation of black farm laws have awaken the people to fight, it shows that still the fights to save rights can be called on and the people to lead such fights and to become their part are here within us, the only thing needed is to have zeal and zest to fight with the mighty to protect rights. Salute to the famers who have shown the way in dark times.
