Sukhbir Badal re-elected SAD president, Parminder Dhindsa abstained

AMRITSAR: Sukhbir Singh Badal was today re-elected president of the Shiromani Akali Dal(SASD) for next five years at a cdelegation session held here today. Snior party leader and former Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa however remained absent from the delegate session.

It is learnt that Parminder Dhindsa had given assurance to Sukhbir Badal to attend the delegate session but his absent sparked fresh controversy. Earlier it was said that Parminder Dhindsa may attend the conference of rebel Akali leaders under the SAD(Taksali) banner being held here to commemorate 99th foundation day of SAD. Parminder also stayed away form the rebel meet. His father Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa however attedned the rebels show.

In a media interview, Dhindsa has challenged the leadership of Sukhbir Singh Badal and blamed him for running the party like a dictator. He claimed that Sukhbir Badal was in habit of bulldozing his way and killed inner party democracy. Dhindsa claimed that Parkash Singh Badal used to evolve consensus on issues before taking a public stand.

Dhindsa said that dueing the core committee meeting held after SAD defeat in 2017 poll, he had demanded resignation of Sukhbir Badal but he got angry with him.
