CHANDIGARH: After the report of six deaths in Sunam came to the fore, the Leader of the Opposition (LoP), Partap Singh Bajwa on Friday slammed the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Excise Minister, Harpal Singh Cheema for not taking the matter seriously.

"As per some reports, six people have died in Sunam by drinking some contaminated liquid. Seven more people are said to be seriously ill. The situation seems to have been deteriorating in the region. People of the area put the blame of deaths on contaminated liquor. However, the Excise Minister is busy protesting against the arrest of AAP National Convener and Delhi CM Arvind Kejariwal", Bajwa added.

Senior Congress Leader, Bajwa said that the insensitive attitude of the Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann can be gauged from the fact that he still has not issued a statement on the deaths in Dirba caused by illicit liquor. It shows that the CM has grown a thick skin.

"At a time the presence of Punjab CM is expected with the people of Punjab, particularly with the people of hooch affected area, he is busy lodging protest against the arrest of AAP supremo. It establishes that he is not loyal to the people of Punjab", Bajwa added.

The opposition leader said that the Punjab CM should immediately take the resignation of the Excise Minister and lodge an FIR against those who supplied the contaminated liquor to victims. It will set an example and prevent such unfortunate incidents from happening in future.
